Earth Hour 2008

This year, Earth Hour goes global. Last years' Earth Hour in Sydney was a raging success, surpassing their targets and reducing green house gas emmissions to the equivalent of 48,000 cars for 1 hour.

If you've ever wondered "how can I, as an individual, make a difference to combat climate change?" then this is your answer. On March 29, 2008 at 8:00pm cities across the globe will power down and do their bit for the environment. Its a simple concept that can produce amazing results.

Although I don't live in Sydney, my family and I participated in this event in 2007. Since then, we've become far more conscious of frivilous power consumption. Lights get turned off when we leave a room and all superfluous electrical gagets normally in "standby mode" get switched off. Its become a regular part of our routine now - very simple to adopt and hardly impacts our lifestyle at all. I've even found myself turning off lights at a friends house when we've been visitng.

I strongly recommend you check out the www.earthhour.org website and sign the pledge to paticipate in Earth Hour 2008.

UPDATE: Proof's in the pud. Looking at our most recent utility bills, here's the savings:

WATER: Down by 23% from last year
ELEC: Down by 26% from last year
GAS: Down by 40% from last year

Water and gas are a direct result of changing our showering habits. Read "Coming Clean on Water Wastage" http://www.technojabber.com/default.asp?Display=5

Electricity is the result of switching to enviro globes, turning off all standby appliances, turning lights off when not in use etc.
